An A3 specimen for the typeface “Dommel” a display typeface inspired by an unassuming bridge in Eindhoven, The Netherlands.

The bridge was built in 1930, but there is no written record of who created the typeface carved into the bridge’s stonework. Designer Marcel Sloots created a more precise replica of the typeface in 2011. However, this design seeks not to replicate the typeface faithfully but to embody the unforgivingly square, pointedly asymmetrical, and robust 1930s character of the typeface in a fresh set of functional forms.

Printed on a digital press, and by hand with a lasercut plate.
